Commissioned for the 150th anniversary of Dedication of St. Mary’s Dominican Church on Pope’s Quay, Cork, Ireland in 1990, the Dominican Magnificat has been translated into numerous languages and is sung the world over as the ‘unofficial anthem’ of the Dominican Order. This is less a setting of the Magnificat and more a hymn incorporating it’s text and the Dominican motto: Laudare, Benidicare, Praedicare – ‘To Praise, To Bless, To Preach’ – themes which stretch far beyond the mission of one Order to become a manifesto for all Christians.
